It’s time for Boris to pay for his mistakes
BUMBLING Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson is quickly shifting from a man out of his depth to a real danger for British citizens abroad.
When Theresa May appointed Boris as the Foreign Secretary, she had already diluted the position – one of the great offices of state – by moving foreign policy closer to No10 and introducing the new Department for Exiting the European Union. However, Boris has still managed to make a hash of the job.
The past week has revealed Boris to not only be incompetent but dangerous as Foreign Secretary.
In another gaffe-ridden interview, Boris wrongly claimed that imprisoned British woman Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was in Iran training journalists, potentially adding more jail time to her sentence.
I can’t remember a time when a Government minister could get something so wrong and be allowed to continue in the job.
Over the past fortnight, May has suffered two resignations from her Government – Michael Fallon for his past behaviour towards women and Priti Patel for her rogue actions in office and her meetings in Israel with foreign government officials.
Both of these resignations were the right thing to do. They went before they were pushed.
However, that would be too much to ask of bombastic Boris, and May is too weak to force him out of the Government.
This latest debacle really draws a line under Boris as Foreign Secretary.
Let me join the chorus of voices calling for him to be sacked.
It’s time for him to go.
