BRIGHT SPARKS
WHEN Laura Dixon put her daughter Mollie forward to appear in the TV show The Secret Life of 4 Year Olds, she didn’t expect her little girl to receive a marriage proposal.
Most of us have no idea what our little ones get up to in nursery or school – but Laura was given a unique insight into her daughter’s week thanks to the documentary makers.
Four-year-old Mollie, from Fife, is seen blushing when little Rory says he wants to marry her in front of the cameras – then the pair decide they’d better tell their mums.
Laura said: “My favourite line of the show is when she then says, ‘We’ll need to tell both of our mums’. I loved that bit. She didn’t actually tell me. I think she’d probably forgotten by that point.
“It’s just a lovely relationship – the wee friendship they’ve got now.”
Laura, 34, a care worker in a residential school, and husband Roddy, 38, a postman, have two other daughters, Emmie, eight, and one-year-old Grace.
Middle daughter Mollie appears in tonight’s episode of the Channel 4 show, which uncovers how friendships develop in the playground and what happens when four-year-olds fall out.
The award-winning fly-on-the- nursery-wall documentary has returned to look at four-year-olds. It will then turn the cameras on to five-year-olds for a couple of episodes.

Laura said: “I was a big fan of the show – I absolutely loved it.”
She added that Mollie loved taking part and formed close friendships with some of the other children – particularly Rory, from Wales.
Laura said: “Mollie has never been the type to talk about boyfriends or girlfriends or anything.
“I think the tone had been set from week one. I watched the first episode and I could see that was the theme coming through with boyfriends and girlfriends. I think that was Mollie trying to fit in.
“All of a sudden, Mollie broadcasts to the table, ‘He’s my boyfriend and points to Rory. I found that really funny. He ended up saying, ‘My name’s Rory’.
“She did become really pally with Rory and that’s who her close friend is now. They speak to each other a lot and do video chats every couple of days.”
Laura and Roddy got to see a preview screening of the episode and were delighted. Laura said: “It was surreal to
