tHE bil­lion­aire owner of Grange­mouth oil re­fin­ery has bought Swiss foot­ball club lau­sanne.

Jim Rat­cliffe’s Ineos have snapped up the side for an undis­closed multi-mil­lion pound sum be­cause it is close to their of­fices in the European tax haven.

David thompson, chief ex­ec­u­tive of Ineos foot­ball SA, said: “Ineos are ex­cited about tak­ing this ma­jor step into top-class foot­ball as part of our wider com­mit­ment to en­cour­age youth sport in lau­sanne and Can­ton Vaud.”
