Meighan drug death riddle
Cops probe possible drugs link to death of Meighan Reid, 17, after popular teen’s body is found in village
TRIBUTES were paid yesterday to a “beautiful” teenage girl who was found dead. Meighan Reid was discovered at an address in Innerleithen, Peeblesshire, on Saturday, prompting a police probe. The 17-year-old’s death was last night being treated as unexplained but it is understood police are looking into whether drugs might have been involved. Officers were called to Caddon Court on Saturday morning after the heartbreaking discovery. Police remained outside the property yesterday. Meighan’s mum Tina Boyle, 35, yesterday shared a picture of the two of them together. Local resident William Byres said the teen’s sudden death had come as a “bombshell” to the town. He added: “She was a really nice lassie, she would do anything for anybody, and I’m completely shocked to hear the news today. I couldn’t believe it.”
Popular Meighan’s heartbroken friends shared touching tributes on social media as news emerged.
Amanda-Louise Kerr added: “Don’t want to believe what I’m hearing, Meighs.
“You were one of the most beautiful girls I knew, with the biggest heart. So many people are going to miss you.
“Sorry that we haven’t been as close since leaving school but I’m glad that you always felt you could talk to me about anything regardless of how long we hadn’t seen each other for and I’m really going to miss our little chats.
“The angels will look after you. RIP Meighan Reid. Love you.” Jordan Harrison added: “RIP to one of my close friends. I grew up with you.
“I’m gonna miss all your chats, you telling me all your problems, encouraging me to do better things growing up.
“You will be greatly missed and have loads of fun up there with Kyle. I will see you one day.”
Caitlin Murray, also 17, said: “RIP Meighan Reid. Taken too early but will never be forgotten.”
And Nicola Forrest wrote: “RIP Meighan. Such a shame. Seventeen is no age at all.”
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “We are investigating the unexplained death of a 17-year-old woman after her body was discovered at an address in Innerleithen on Saturday.”
