Morrissey: Spacey is a victim
SINGER Morrissey has defended Kevin Spacey – saying the actor has been “needlessly attacked” over allegations of sex assaults.
The former Smiths star said it was ridiculous that Oscar winner Spacey was being replaced in his upcoming film All the Money in the World.
And he slammed actresses who accused fallen movie mogul Harvey Weinstein of rape and abuse, insisting they “knew exactly what was happening” when they went into hotel rooms with him.
In an interview, Morrissey was asked what he thought of the fact Spacey was being replaced by veteran actor Christopher Plummer.
He replied: “I think that’s ridiculous.” He added: “To me it seems as if Spacey was needlessly attacked.”
Questioned about Weinstein, Morrissey said: “The people know exactly what is happening and they are playing along.
“Afterwards they find it embarrassing or they didn’t like it. And then they turn it around and say, ‘I’ve been attacked.’
“But if everything had gone just fine and made possible a great career, they wouldn’t talk about it.
“I hate rape. I hate sexual assault. But in very many of these cases, you … think that the person is simply disappointed.” Songs Of Praise star Aled Jones will not appear on the BBC while allegations of inappropriate behaviour more than a decade ago are investigated.
Married dad-of-two Jones, 46, said in a statement he accepted his behaviour was “occasionally juvenile” but strongly denied any “inappropriate contact”.
