THIEVES broke into the home of a multiple sclerosis fundraiser and stole his children’s Christmas presents.

The raiders swooped when Dean Reilly was out shopping.

Dean, who has raised more than £100,000 for research into MS, came home to find his back door smashed in and his property ransacked.

The thieves made off with a £1500 haul, including Christmas presents for Dean’s three sons, including an Xbox One, football boots and a Nintendo console.

They even took a replica Scottish Cup which his son Michael kept beside his bed.

Dean, 37, said: “The thing that stings the most is the kids’ Christmas presents. If the insurance doesn’t resolve it quick enough, I won’t be able to find that money before Christmas, which is soul-destroying.

“I would love for the people who have done this to realise the impact that they’ve had not just on me but the kids as well.

“My son now knows there are bad people out there who will come into his house and take what he’s got.”

Dean, who was diagnosed with MS in 2012, discovered the break-in when he returned to the family home in Niddrie, Edinburgh, at about 8pm on Friday.

He added: “There was glass everywhere. I went up the stairs and found my room was trashed.

“Christmas presents which were hidden in my wardrobe were all gone.

“I went to a cupboard where more were hidden and they were also gone.

“Michael ran to his room and came down upset because they had taken his replica of the Scottish Cup from when Hibs won it.

“They also took a few of his computer games and even a gift card from the Build-A-Bear Workshop.”
