Gers ace: Manager issue not problem

- ALAN MARSHALL

ways to react and respond. We got a bit nervy and didn’t really trust each other on the pitch which is what happens when that sneaks into your game.

“On that result, people are going to question us. There are games we have lost this season when we were favourites to win.

“It’s a fact that everyone is going to question us, criticise us and have their say.

“But I go back to the fact it’s important on the inside, within the team and the squad, that we stick together.”

The result meant yet again Rangers have failed to win three matches in a row and haven’t done so in almost a year now.

Jack is adamant, however, the statistic isn’t preying on minds inside Ibrox.

He said: “No, not at all, not from me anyway. That’s for people on the outside to speak about and have their say on. The whole week in training was probably the best we’ve had this season in terms of intensity and having that spring in our step.

“The boys were in good spirits and it just shows when you take your eye off the ball then teams can hurt us.”

Rangers have a double header against his former team Aberdeen looming at the end of this month and the start of December but Jack won’t even think about those until the next 90 minutes against Dundee is out of the way.

He said: “It would be stupid of us to look any further than showing a reaction at Dundee. We need a response and we want to get a good result for the fans.” Whether interim boss Murty will still be in charge for the journey to Den Park remains to be seen but Jack insisted the squad is still firmly behind him. He said: “There’s no doubt times have been tough but as teammates we’re all there for each other. “Murty is in there and he’s right behind the boys – and we’re right behind him. “It’s important that next week in training we get that spring back in our step and come out fighting at Dundee.” THE wait for a new manager had no effect on the Rangers players ahead of their shock 2-0 defeat by Hamilton claims striker Kenny Miller.

The Light Blues were hoping for a hat-trick of wins for the first time in 2017 but Accies’ first league win at Ibrox for 91 years sparked renewed demands for the club to sort out their managerial problem.

Caretaker boss Graeme Murty had taken six points from two matches but the club had not even drawn up a final shortlist more than three weeks after Pedro Caixinha was sacked.

The club had said they would do so after the end of this week but their search could be complicated by their upcoming double header against Aberdeen, the club managed by the favourite for the post Derek McInnes.

Rangers first face Dundee on Friday night but Miller claims the uncertainty is no excuse as they created plenty of chances and hit the bar twice.

However, Alfredo Morelos, who has now gone nine games without a goal, missed enough opportunities to win the match on his own.

Miller said: “Whether there is a new manager in place or not it has not affected the lads. We had a good week in training and we knew if we played well we would win.

“We performed reasonably well but didn’t take our chances. You can’t afford to miss as many as we did and expect to win games.

“Murts has done a great job and the lads respond to what he wants done. Whether he is second favourite, favourite, 10th favourite doesn’t matter. We let ourselves down.

“It’s not about letting Graeme or anyone else down, we are all in it together.”
