PHOTOS of Paul Hollywood kissing The Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown sounded the death knell for his marriage, sources claim.
Wife Alex, 53, accepted it was just an innocent peck but was “mortified” at their marriage being put under the spotlight again.
She is normally a prolific tweeter but has remained silent online since Paul, 51, was pictured kissing goodbye to Candice, 32, as they left the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards last month.
The Hollywoods, who have a teenage son, announced on Monday that they were splitting up after nearly 20 years of marriage.
A source said: “Their marriage was coming to an end anyway but this doubtless accelerated things.
“She found the whole situation mortifying having the marriage being pored over and the fact it kickstarted all this speculation once more.”
They previously split in 2013 when Paul admitted an affair with Marcela Valladolid, his co-star on the US version of Bake Off, 12 years his junior. He later called it “the biggest mistake of my life”. Alex took him back and in 2015, she was appointed a director of Paul Hollywood Ltd, who had assets worth £1.4million at the time. Her brother Simon Moores said yesterday: “They have my sympathy. It is very sad.” Paul and recently engaged Candice insist that others were with them as they had an innocent peck on the cheek. A spokesman for both said it is “untrue” to describe it as an “intimate” kiss.
