LORRAINE’S JOINING COP COMEDY CAPER

-

first day the director came over and said, ‘OK, you guys are going to do this’. My heart was thumping in my chest, thinking, ‘Oh my God are we just going to make it up in front of everyone?’ And then we literally did one take and there was a complete power cut and we were all sent home. I was so glad.

“We rescheduled it for a week later and I had a wee inkling of what was expected of me so I had a week to think about what I was going to be saying and what was happening in the scenes.

“You have to be willing to take a risk, which can be quite embarrassing.

“There was a bit when Jack was talking about my shoes and how he paid for them I ended up taking them off and shoving them in his pocket.

“Of course you are surrounded by other people, including the crew and the supporting artists, who are looking at you thinking, ‘What they hell is she doing?’ That didn’t make the final cut but you have to go there. It was really quite scary, but I like that. It was quite liberating.”

Lorraine would be delighted to go back and see the warring couple at home. The quick turnaround filming schedule of Scot Squad could fit in with what is already shaping up to be a busy year.

It’s Deacon Blue’s 30th anniversary next year and they have announced a tour to mark the occasion. It will encompass the band’s whole career and see them play some of their biggest ever shows. The tour will include dates at the Hydro and the AECC in Aberdeen. The band, who had huge hits with songs including Dignity, Real Gone Kid and I’ll Never Fall In Love Again, have enjoyed a resurgence since they began releasing new music, putting out three albums since 2012. Last year’s Believers became their highest charting album in 23 years. In February, they are heading to Spain for their first dates in the country in 25 years.

Lorraine said: “When we started releasing new music again, there was a real re-energising within us and the tours have been brilliant the last few years.

“We are in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia in February.

“We also hope to be going back to Germany and Holland later in the year.

“We are already going back to Spain in October. We put the tickets out and thought maybe nobody will come, it has been 25 years, but they sold really quickly.”

Lorraine has projects coming up which she can’t say anything about, including Hemphill’s film and a play she is in talks with for January.

And when you’re in demand like Lorraine, Wages Day is never too far away. ● Scot Squad is on BBC1 tonight at 10.40pm.
