Jungle struggle

-

THE SNP’s Jenny Gilruth wrote in the Daily Record that because of the rape clause, Universal Credit and Brexit, people should have more things to be angry about than her partner, Labour MSP Kezia Dugdale, appearing on a TV show.

Perhaps Ms Gilruth should be asking herself why, with all these things to be angry about, her partner has chosen to desert her post and spend the next three weeks cavorting around an Australian jungle. A Ballantyne, Aberdeen STREWTH! Jenny Gilruth’s defence of her partner’s participation in I’m A Celebrity is exactly like the kind of thing contestants in the show are faced with eating in their Bushtucker Trials.

So what if Kezia Dugdale plans to donate some of her I’m a Celebrity money – and some of her MSP’s salary, which is public money – to charity?

Can a nurse now be absent from work for a few weeks, fooling around in the jungle, as long as they say they’ll give some of their earnings to charity?

I doubt if Gilruth in her previous job as a teacher would have been so ready to defend any colleague who chose to take weeks off work – with pay and without permission – to take part in a TV show.

I’m sure people will find Gilruth’s defence harder to swallow than anything Kezia might have to take during her stint Down Under. Hamish Whiteford, Gargunnock, Stirlingshire
