Loganair staff take passengers to nation’s far-flung corners

JOURNEYS at Christmas take on extra significan­ce when you’re traveling to see family and friends.

Staff at Loganair, Scotland’s Airline, know their jobs are never more important than over the festive season.

Working until Christmas Eve – and beyond if it means getting people home – the staff make it their business to reconnect people in far-flung communitie­s.

Poor weather, remote locations and an extra-busy schedule mean the days before Christmas can be challengin­g.

But beach landings, spectacula­r scenery and the best views in the world make up for it.

For over 50 years the airline has been providing a lifeline service across the Scottish Highlands and Islands.

In just over an hour you can fly from Glasgow to Kirkwall in Orkney or the Western Isles – journeys that would take full days or many hours by road, rail and boat.

Here, we speak to some of the staff from Loganair who will be working to get people home this Christmas. Gillian Gibson A FORMER member of cabin crew, Gillian moved into the operations room, behind the scenes, which is a logistical job at the centre of Loganair.

This is the hub of Scotland’s Airline, and Gillian liaises between airline crew, air traffic control, airfield staff and engineers to ensure the smooth delivery of flights.

When bad weather can mean cancelled flights and delayed passengers, Gillian’s job is to find a solution, fast.

The 12-hour shifts can be stressful but she loves it.
