DALBEATTIE STAR boss Darren Kerr is hoping last week’s win over Vale of Leithen will kickstart their Lowland season.

The 3-2 victory was their first triumph in the league since the end of August and their first away points.

Kerr is now preparing for a tough home match against third-top Spartans and said: “It was a much-needed win. We dominated the match in terrible conditions.

“We changed our plan. The balls went in from out wide and we got three goals so we were pleased our game plan worked.”

But Kerr admitted he thought more heartache was in store when Vale went ahead in the first half.

He said: “We thought, ‘Oh, here we go again’ because we’ve been the same for the last five or six weeks.

“We needed to get the points, especially with two really hard games coming up with Spartans this Saturday and leaders BSC Glasgow next week.

“Hopefully the win lifts the lads and gives our season a kickstart.”

BSC will be looking for revenge when they take on Cumbernaul­d Colts.

Last week Colts won 4-1 to open things up at the top and East Kilbride, trailing the leaders by only a point, take on bottom side Hawick Royal Albert. JAMIE BRANDON has made the breakthrou­gh into the Hearts first team – now the right-back wants to secure his place in the senior changing room.

The former Rangers kid still grafts alongside his fellow Jambos Under-20s team-mates scrubbing Michael Smith’s boots during the week at the club’s Oriam training base.

But budding Jambos star Brandon’s hoping the maturity of his man-of-the-match performanc­e against Partick Thistle last Sunday will help him follow in the footsteps of Rory Currie by becoming a fullyfledg­ed member of the first team.
