Milly killer Bellfield: I murdered Lin and Megan

‘CONFESSION’ OVER HAMMER HORROR Lawyers for man convicted of 1996 crime reveal ‘admission’ made to fellow inmate

-

after a two-part BBC documentary in May saw a panel of independent experts re-examine the evidence and suggest another suspect.

Stone, a heroin addict from Gillingham, Kent, was convicted at Maidstone Crown Court in 1998 of two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

The convictions were quashed by Court of Appeal judges in 2001, but he was found guilty again at a retrial later that year.

With a lack of DNA evidence, his conviction hangs on a fellow prisoner, Damien Daley, who said Stone confessed through a heating pipe into the next cell at Canterbury Prison.

Bacon said Daley has told “numerous people” that he lied to the jury.

Stone’s legal team said they also have a witness who saw Bellfield driving away from the scene of the murders.

Bacon told a press conference in London they have submitted the confession to the Criminal Cases Review Commission.

He said Bellfield’s confession “has a number of facts which are not in the public domain” and includes his motivation for the killing.

Bacon added: “We have an independent witness who saw Levi Bellfield close to the scene of the murders at about the time they were committed. And, importantly, we have identified forensic material from the scene of the murders which corroborates the confession made by Levi Bellfield.”

Bacon has asked for the new evidence to be probed by an independent police force.

Bellfield is serving a whole-life sentence after being found guilty in 2011 of abducting and killing Milly.

The 13-year-old was snatched from the street while on her way home from school in Walton-onThames, Surrey, in March 2002.

He was already in jail for the 2003 murder of Marsha McDonnell, 19, and the murder of Amelie Delagrange, 22, and the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy, 18, both in 2004.
