Staggies fear their leader will miss test

OWEN COYLE fears his Ross County side may have to go into tomorrow’s crucial clash against Dundee without their influential skipper Andrew Davies.

The centre-back limped off at Tynecastle last weekend with calf damage and is facing a race against time to play the Dens men.

With second-bottom Dundee three points behind their Dingwall hosts it amounts to a six-pointer.

And Staggies boss Coyle said: “Davies will be a last-minute call. He has responded really well to the treatment and our physio Kevin Bain seems to think he is in a decent place.

“But he will have to be able to train tomorrow for us to be satisfied in our own minds that he is okay for Saturday.

“He is one of those lads who hates coming off in games. His record here, in terms of playing games, has been terrific so we remain hopeful.

“Andrew is a terrific player and very good captain – a real leader, a proper man.

“We would love to have him available but we will need to wait until tomorrow to know what is happening on that front.

“Andrew is one I obviously know from my time in England. I know a number of boys who played with him as well, big David Wheater being one.

“Boys like that always spoke very highly of Andrew and held him in high regard.

“Watching him in his career, you always have an impression of a player’s qualities. But it is only when you get to work with them on a daily basis you see all their full attributes.

“I have been very impressed since coming in. He wears his heart on his sleeve and you can see his commitment and desire to do well for the club.

“I like the way he goes about his business.”
