Given up on my Aussie World Cup dream
inspiration from former Celtic kid Jackson Irvine who has forced himself into selection for his country by earning a move to Hull after impressing for Burton.
Edwards said: “I add something different to what Australia have but we have a lot of good midfielders in the squad.
“I look at Irvine who I played with at Under-20s and 23s and he is a player I want to emulate in terms of doing well for my club then making the international side.
“I have to do well for my club and I know I need to have a bigger impact in games in terms of more assists and goals.
“If I can do that I’d come to the attention of the Australian team. I don’t want to be selfish and stop being a team player. I want to get the best out of myself but help the team too.”
Postecoglou is rumoured to be in the running for the Rangers job and Edwards believes he would cope with the pressure of managing an Old Firm club.
He said: “Ange wants to go into club football and he would be a good fit for Rangers. He would do a good job. The way he changed the national team from being big, strong and fast players to more technical players will attract interest from clubs.
“He’s been to two World Cups, Confederations Cup and the Asia Cup, so he is used to pressure. Rangers is a massive club and it will be a difficult job but he thrives in that environment. He always sets a high standards for everyone.”
