Sons will graft – then hit Grafton
DUMBARTON will put the graft in this afternoon before hitting Grafton Street tonight.
Sons jet out for Dublin on their Christmas night out and they are determined to add sparkle to the party by defeating St Mirren.
Former Buddie Kyle Hutton helped dent Dunfermline’s title hopes last weekend and sees no reason they can’t do the same in Paisley.
He said: “A win always makes your Christmas night out all the better. A defeat would put a dampener on it before we head to Dublin so fingers crossed we take three points against Saints.
“I’ve heard good things about the football St Mirren are playing this season. But everyone was also saying the same before we faced Dunfermline last week and it took a last-minute goal for them to earn a 2-2 draw.
“There is a lot of expectation at St Mirren as supporters don’t believe they should be where they are so I expect it to be a wee bit tense.
“I’m sure I’ll take stick from them as a former player. They gave me plenty at our place earlier in the season and I’ve got mixed emotions when I look back on my time at the club.
“We had some really good players but unfortunately as a team we didn’t gel. It wasn’t a nice place to be when the fans, rightfully, were up in arms.
“I spent the last six months of last season on loan at Airdrie but Jack Ross deserves credit for the manner in which he has turned the team around.
“We’re not doing too badly either. We drew at Dunfermline and were unlucky again to lose a last-minute goal to also give Queen of the South a 2-2 draw in midweek.
“At the start of every season we’re odds on to be relegated but Stevie Aitken is one of the best managers I’ve worked with.
“He gives us such confidence but also puts pressure on us to deliver to our potential because we have some really good players at our club.”
A victory will give St Mirren three wins on the spin for the third time this season and they already have a 2-0 win against Sons under their belts.
Ross watched his side hit the top in midweek with a 3-1 win over Livingston. He said: “We have a lot of games between now and January that could determine our season.”
