FRASER’S A FREE SPIRIT

But United ace’s only target is to stay top

- EUAN McARTHUR

SCOTT FRASER insists he’s ignoring all speculation over his future – and is only interested in keeping gaffer Csaba Laszlo happy.

The in-demand Dundee United midfielder has been linked with Hearts as well as English clubs including Wigan and showed why with a stunning double in last week’s 2-1 win over Dunfermline that sent his team top of the table.

Local lad Fraser’s contract is set to expire in the summer and the highly-rated playmaker will be free to speak to other clubs in January.

But the fans’ favourite, who has come through the renowned Tannadice youth ranks, has brushed aside the transfer talk.

And Fraser vowed to repay the boss who handed him a free role as the Tangerines head for Morton today intent on cementing their place at the summit of the Championship.

Fraser said: “It doesn’t affect me. I just keep doing what I’m doing. I’m playing well and I’m enjoying myself here under the new manager.

“He has given me a lot of freedom to go and play so I just let other people deal with that kind of stuff.

“If clubs are looking it means we are doing well. I’m enjoying my football.

“I’m enjoying playing in front of the Dundee United fans for the gaffer and with the boys.

“Long may that continue from my point of view.”

Laszlo has now challenged the United midfielder to become even more prolific.

And Fraser said: “I want to start adding more goals. I create enough chances for my team-mates so it’s about me now trying to score.

“The gaffer has been on at me since he came in. Even after last Saturday he still wasn’t happy with me. He said I should have had a hat-trick or four.

“That’s good. It makes me strive to do better and he’s right – I should’ve had my hat-trick. If I go into this game and score again hopefully he’ll be happy!

“The gaffer has come in with an attacking game plan and wants us to score more goals.

“As a team, we agree. You can see the chances we create, enough to score three or four in every game. It’s about us being more clinical now.”

United face Jim Duffy’s side before travelling to Queen of the South next weekend ahead of the crunch festive period. And Fraser added: “If we’re going to be serious about winning the league, we have to go to places like this and perform.

“We went to Morton last season and did well, the same with Queen of the South. So we’re looking to put on a good performance.”

This will be the ninth clash between the sides in less than 15 months. Ton boss Duffy said: “We faced United seven times last season and competed well against them in every game. It was the same in our first meeting this season at Tannadice where we lost 2-1 to a late goal.

“We’ve been competitive against them for eight games running and I want that to rise to nine – good going as they should be in the Premiership.

“We might be familiar opponents but I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“They’ve begun life well under Csaba’s leadership. They’ll be determined to keep hold of top spot but we’re just as determined to keep in touch with the play-off chasing pack.”
