I CAN STOP THE DROP THIS TIME

-

JORDAN TURNBULL insists he’ll pull out all the stops for rock-bottom Partick Thistle to ensure he doesn’t suffer consecutive relegations after his nightmare at Coventry last season.

The on-loan Jags defender was part of a Sky Blues squad demoted into the fourth tier for the first time in 58 years.

And as he lines up against Kilmarnock this afternoon the 23-year-old will do all he can to avoid repeating history.

Turnbull said: “We were expected to finish high in the table and we had a massive fan base.

“But it was a really disappointing season. It was tough to take. There are things I learned from last season to make me stronger mentally. I’m determined not to let that happen again.

“I will do everything in my power to help the team out of this sticky situation.

“It’s not panic stations just yet and we’re still confident. We believe we can get ourselves out of it.

“But we need to start this weekend. We just need to improve on a few things. We are getting punished for little errors.”

Thistle are four points adrift of second-bottom Ross County and have managed only two wins in this campaign.

Yet Turnbull insists time is on their side to climb up the table after leaving it too late at Coventry.

He added: “Mentally it was draining at Coventry last season. Going into games and coming out with nothing made it difficult to pick yourself up. Towards the end of the season we managed to do well but it was just too late.

“Here we have time and we have an opportunity to gain some points. There is a long time in the season to move up the table.

“If you go on a winning streak in this league you can jump up a fair few places. The teams are all tightly packed and a victory at Kilmarnock puts us back in the mix.”
