Lennon wary of threat of hurting Hoops

NEIL LENNON has warned his Hibs stars that Celtic will be out to prove a point after being stung by criticism of their Champions League defeat.

As a former Hoops player and manager, he knows the flak they received in the aftermath of the loss to Anderlecht will fire the Parkhead men up to send a message in tomorrow’s Easter Road clash.

But Lennon believes if his side stand tall in the face of the champions they can go one better than the outstanding 2-2 draw they earned in September – and halt their Invincibles record at 67 domestic games.

He said: “I’ve been in that position as a player when you have come off the back of a disappointing European result.

“You go into the game as the best thing since sliced bread and after the game you’re toast.

“So you want to get back out there again and I’m sure Celtic will have their backs up.

“In terms of the European record, you are always going to get a bit of criticism for that.

“To not have won at home for a couple of years is unheard of for Celtic but they’ve been in two very difficult Champions League groups. Domestically, they’re imperious. Four trophies and still unbeaten for a year-and-a-half.

“That’s an incredible record but it doesn’t faze me at all. If we do win it would be fantastic, if we break the record so be it.

“I’m only thinking about how we can get something out the game because we have big matches coming up (against Aberdeen and Rangers) and are only a point off second place.”
