Swimming against tide

-

READER Bill Kerr, writing in yesterday’s Record Readers, demonstrates the bigotry which lies at the heart of Scottish nationalism.

For all the claims to be “civic”, and “inclusive”, the anti-English cornerstone is always visible just under the surface.

Currently it’s about how the English are responsible for the result of a UK-wide vote – unless by “one of the countries that makes up the United Kingdom” he means that Wales is dragging Scotland out of the EU – he seems WE are now witnessing some of the best salmon runs ever seen recently in Scotland but before anglers get all enthused, what we are seeing is tons of dead mature fish being taken by road transport from West Scotland for oil processing in central Scotland.

This is a wake-up call for the SNP administration who have consistency ignored expert advice that captive salmon farms are not without problems, with up to one in four mature fish rejected for human consumption owing to lice and disease problems.

There is also a knock-on effect on the wild salmon population leaving many rivers in the west now almost bereft of salmon and sea trout as a direct result of the salmon farm industry.

The First Minister needs to set up an urgent inquiry into salmon farming and the environmental impact of the industry. Dennis Forbes Grattan,

Bucksburn, Aberdeen to forget there was a majority in favour of Brexit there too.

People like Bill complain about Scotland being allowed to “follow their voting wishes”. We’ve done that several times in recent years, but the nationalists never accept the results. G, Glasgow
