Fury clear to ‘reclaim titles’
TYSON FURY wants to win back his world heavyweight titles from Anthony Joshua after finally being cleared to resume his boxing career.
The 29-year-old can return to the ring after he and cousin Hughie Fury accepted a two-year backdated ban for failing a drugs test for a steroid in 2015. He has settled with UK Anti-Doping to end the longrunning case.
The unbeaten Traveller has not fought since dethroning Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015 and wants back his old WBA and IBF belts held by Joshua.
Fury said: “Next year I will be back and ready to reclaim the world titles which are rightfully mine.”
In a message to Joshua, Fury wrote on Twitter: “Where you at boy? I’m coming for you punk.”
The 29-year-old added: “I’m a fighting man through and through and I’ve never backed down from anyone in my life.
“I was certainly not going to back down from fighting this dispute. Hughie and I have maintained our innocence from day one and we’re now happy it’s finally been settled with UKAD and that we can move forward knowing that we will not be labelled drug cheats.
“I can now put the nightmare of the last two years behind me and next year I will be back doing what I do best.
“It’s time to get the party started.”
Fury and Hughie tested positive for the banned steroid nandrolone in February 2015 but were not charged by UKAD until June 2016.
However, by that time Fury had beaten Ukrainian Klitschko to become undisputed champion.
Both men strongly denied the nandrolone charge claiming the positive was a result of eating wild boar that had not been castrated.
As part of the compromise deal UKAD withdrew a charge against Tyson Fury of failure to provide a sample in September 2016.
