GEORGE GIVES 14 MATES $1m EACH
Hollywood superstar even pays all the tax on it to thank them for supporting him through his career
GENEROUS George Clooney gave 14 pals $1million each as a thank-you for helping him make it. The superstar actor and director’s amazing gesture has been revealed by his longtime friend Rande Gerber. Clooney gave the group of pals he calls “The Boys” the money in cash – and told them it was all theirs to keep as he had already paid the tax on it. Gerber, who is married to supermodel Cindy Crawford, said Clooney had invited the group around to dinner on September 27, 2013. When they arrived, each place setting had a black suitcase. He said Clooney told them: “Listen, I want you guys to know how much you’ve meant to me and how much you mean in my life. “I came to LA, I slept on your couch. I’m so fortunate in my life to have all of you and I couldn’t be where I am today without all of you. So, it was really important to me that I give back. So I want you all to open your suitcases.’”
When the group opened their cases, each contained $1million in $20 bills.
Gerber said added: “One of The Boys was working at a bar in Texas at the airport to support his family. Rides a bicycle to work every day.
“These are guys that took care of George and now he’s giving it all back. And George said, ‘Not only that, I have paid everyone’s taxes so this million dollars is yours.’”
Gerber, a restaurateur who part-owned Clooney’s own tequila brand, said he tried not to accept. But Clooney told the group if he didn’t take it, no one would get it.
Gerber added: “That was September 27, 2013. Now September 27, 2014, he marries Amal. Now that’s good karma right there.”
Clooney’s considerate nature was shown on a recent flight when he and human rights lawyer Amal handed fellow passengers noise-cancelling headphones to drown out any cries from their young twins.
