Bluey Moult

SIGN OF TIMES GERS MISS OUT Why haven’t Rangers tried to snap up Fir Park talisman?

-

IT’S not often we get to quote Winnie the Pooh but it somehow feels right as Louis Moult gets ready to leave Motherwell’s 500 Acre Wood.

How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.

Sounds about right as Well get set to bid farewell to their star man. It’s going to be a sore one to see him depart but Moult will be able to leave with plenty of Well wishes.

The hitman has more than done the business and no one should grudge him the chance to make a few quid. Moult’s not had the easiest time of it over the years and has earned the right to make the most of any opportunity that comes his way.

The likes of Preston might not sound the most glamorous of destinations but there’s no need to worry about the view from the back garden when the sight of the monthly pay slip looks so sweet.

Moult could have jumped ship at any stage in the last 12 months but instead he stayed put and helped Motherwell stay in the top flight – before getting his side to the Betfred Cup Final.

The DVD of his double in the semi-final will be a Christmas stocking filler for years to come.

You can’t fault Motherwell either. They’ve tried to bust the bank to get him to stay and although he could have become the highest-paid man at Fir Park since the Setanta years, it’s small change compared to the coins on offer over the border.

Sometimes in football you have to just accept the way of the world and wish all parties all the best.

If it’s a pre-contract job and he gets to see out the season it would be a great bit of business for Well. He could help them climb a few places in the table this term and at around 100 grand a place, every goal could be worth a right few quid.

But if Preston or anyone else slap in a decent wedge to get him in January then either way the Fir Park coffers are going to be filled. Job done all round.

But what is hard to fathom is how Moult hasn’t been snapped up closer to home. Aberdeen
