had a couple of nibbles back in the summer and couldn’t come up with the readies but it’s not hard to see what we are talking about.

Rangers, we’re on about you. Moult looks exactly what they need right now but in keeping with their current shenanigans they seem to be unable to see the woods for the trees.

Derek McInnes was right under their noses for six weeks but by the time they tried to take a sniff, the Dons boss had gone off the scent.

Moult is another one staring them right in the face. He was on the list of targets when Pedro Caixinha was still in a gig but the move never materialised.

It now seems they’ll miss out again. This is a guy who has rattled 50 goals in just over two years – a proven goalscorer who has run amok in Scotland.

He’s exactly what’s needed at Rangers, the definition of a no brainer. But it’s another example of the lack of joined-up thinking there right now.

They’ve got a director of football in Mark Allen who is front and centre in the search for a new manager and who is also in charge of recruitment.

There’s not a bottomless pit of cash at Ibrox but Moult represents cracking value for money, either in January or in the summer.

Gers could snap him up for half a million and on less than half the weekly salary of some of the players they’ll need to try to shift.

The problem is no one’s steering the ship – no one’s giving the green light to do a bit of fishing in the transfer market.

Like another pearl of wisdom from Tigger, Eeyore and Co.

You can’t stay in your corner of the forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes. DUNFERMLINE boss Allan Johnston insists a trip to high-flying St Mirren is the perfect way to bounce back from their demolition at the hands of Queen of the South.

The Pars are toiling on a run of six matches without a win in the Championship and their 5-2 defeat against Queens saw them drop out the promotion play-off spots.

Johnston pulled no punches following a dreadful display last Saturday, describing it as their worst performance during his rein.

The bid to stop their slump does not get any easier this weekend with a daunting trip to Paisley.

Second-placed Saints have won four of their last five matches and have emerged as realistic title challengers.

Johnston, however, believes it is an ideal fixture for his side to make amends.

He said: “Confidence is going to take a dunt after a result like we had against Queen of the South because it was as poor as we have been. You just have to make sure the players respond.

“The boys have to show a bit of character and make sure they respond.

“We need a bit of fight because it doesn’t get much harder than St Mirren in this league. They are a quality team but these are the kind of games you want after a match like Queens.”
