Del: Job talk cost us wins v Rangers
DEREK McINNES admits the will-he, won’t he Rangers saga may have affected his Aberdeen side in their double header with the Light Blues.
But the Reds boss last night challenged his men to end the year on a high after recording back-to-back victories at McDiarmid Park.
The 46-year-old last week turned down the chance to succeed Pedro Caixinha in the wake of two defeats to Gers in the space of five days. McInnes said: “It is easy
to assume – but we won at Kilmarnock in what was a really convincing performance.
“But we followed it with two poor performances against Rangers although to their credit they played well.
“When you don’t win it is easy to look for reasons and whether subconsciously they are in a better frame of mind you would need to ask the players. But we haven’t altered our preparation.
“The difference between winning and losing is everything and when you don’t win it hits hard at this club.
“It can be seen as quite dramatic as we’re not used to not winning games for a long period of time. We now have a huge game on Saturday and are really looking forward to it.
“We’ve got four games until the winter break and we want to finish strong. Hopefully we can come out after the Hearts game on December 30 pleased with where we are.
“We went into this game five points better off than this stage last season and everything has been better this season in terms of the stats other than clean sheets so to get another clean sheet is important.”
St Johnstone haven’t won at home since September 23 and boss Tommy Wright said: “We’ve lost to big clubs and that’s disappointing as clubs used to hate coming here.”
