Specially Selected exquisite christmas chocolate Robin (540g), £9.99, Aldi THE delicate, edible robin perched on top of a chocolate, hazelnut praline and honeycomb branch was so pretty we felt sure he was going to burst into song. We were taken aback by all the different elements, from the base made of creamy chocolate with cranberrie­s to the branch stuffed with honeycomb. Easy to slice, it’s a stylish way to serve petit fours – if you can bear to break it up.

The clever yering of a brownie base, dreamy ocolate mousse, fudge pieces and tiny ocolate-coated honeycomb balls that mbled out of the tree pinatas was a ntalising combinatio­n. Tree-mendous showstoppe­r luxury chocolate & orange choux garland (514g), £6, Iceland gOlD, glittery and festive, adding a touch of glamour to the table. a good mix of textures and flavours from the soft and chewy choux pastry to the crispy chocolate orange outer and creamy filling. We found it a little too sweet, however, and struggled to cut it into neat slices. Messy but tasty Taste the Difference Belgian chocolate Tiffin Wreath (800g), £15, Sainsbury’s VEry shiny, chunky and solid, it looked too perfect to be edible. Moist chocolate with lots of nuts and fruit. you don’t need much as it’s very rich. We thought it worked better as an after-dinner treat with coffee than for a pudding. Ideal for sharing (1.18kg), £15, Waitrose a STuNNINg, glittery white cake with caramel dripping down the sides and topped with a classy combinatio­n of metallic red fudge pieces, chocolate curls and crystalise­d ginger that gleamed like gemstones. Deliciousl­y moist with plump sultanas, a hint of ginger and cinnamon, and a creamy fudge. It was heavenly. a taste of Christmas in every slice (750ml), £20, Marks & Spencer VEry pretty and delicate with a gorgeous glittery sheen and just a hint of colour with red festive baubles to finish it off. We didn’t want to spoil it by cutting it up but were delighted when we did. The mousse was light, smooth and chocolatel­y with a raspberry filling that stopped it being too sweet. Then you get a nice crunch as you bite into the florentine base and scoff the chocolate baubles. It cut into perfect slices that looked really impressive.
