TO BOLDY GO STRIKER H S

JOE SHAUGHNESSY feels a victory against Rangers at Ibrox tomorrow would be the perfect cure for their bout of homesickness.

Tommy Wright’s men lost 3-0 at home to Aberdeen on Wednesday night, taking their winless streak in Perth to five matches.

Wright admits opponents no longer hate facing Saints and Shaughnessy says it’s time for them to go back to basics, starting in Govan.

He said: “We know we can do it. We’ve just got to get back to doing what we’re good at.

“I don’t know why it isn’t clicking for us at home but we’ll definitely be confident going to Ibrox. We know what we need to do – stick together and work hard.

“I’m sure you’ll see a different performance from us this weekend.

“Against Aberdeen we were well in the game then the first chance they got they put away.

“We just seem to be doing that too often – giving teams a lead and making it hard for ourselves.

“For the second Aberdeen goal we should have dealt with the cross before it got into the area.

“Towards the break it looked like we could get back into it so we tried to start the second half as we finished the first but the deflected free-kick for the third killed the game.”

Meanwhile, the Irishman admits he knows nothing about new Saints recruit David McMillan.

His countryman signed a two-and-a-half-year deal this week and will arrive from Dundalk next month.

But Shaughnessy said: “I don’t know anything about David – hopefully he’s a class act! He has a decent record for Dundalk so I hope that carries on over here.

“We were on a long run without scoring a few weeks ago and a goalscorer is always welcome.”
