Beast raped his own niece

CHILD rapist Damian Cochrane has been jailed for eight years for a horrific campaign of sexual abuse against his niece and other children.

Cochrane first abused niece Kate Davenport as she played in a Wendy house when she was just four.

The beast, who is 10 years older than Kate, continued to prey on her at a house in Drumchapel, Glasgow.

He began to rape her when she was nine and the abuse went on for a total of 10 years, the High Court in Glasgow was told.

Kate bravely waived her anonymity last month after Cochrane was found guilty of five child sex offences against her and another two children.

The other victims, a girl and a boy, cannot be named for legal reasons.

Cochrane appeared for sentence in court yesterday.

Kate, now 40, has been left with complex posttraumatic stress disorder.

She told last month how Cochrane first attacked her in the Wendy house tent at her grandfather’s house, where he lived.

She said he tried to treat her “like a girlfriend” and told her she was his favourite niece.

Kate said: “He would kiss me, play me love songs, tell me I was his favourite niece and how he was going to save me because he knew that I had a troubled family background.

“I had a feeling of absolute horror and I just froze. Not only was I being abused, but it was by my own uncle. You just can’t fathom that.

“He raped me twice – in his bedroom and on the sofa where he put his hand over my mouth.

“My grandad was sleeping and we were staying over so he covered my mouth and raped me in the living room.”

Kate finally plucked up the courage to report Cochrane to the police in 2013.

Three other victims then came forward claiming he had also abused them.

Cochrane, who had been living in Lincolnshire, was found guilty of four charges of lewd, indecent and libidinous practises against three of the children – including Kate – and one charge of rape. The offences all took place in Glasgow between 1981 and 1990.
