‘Pop-up Jims’ aim to slow down drivers
LIFE-SIZE cutout police officers are to be placed at speeding hotspots in a city to make drivers slow down.
The “Pop-up Jims”, which aim a speed gun at motorists, will be placed in Dundee’s Strathmartine and Coldside areas, where concerns have been raised about speeding.
The pilot project will run over the coming months.
Chief Inspector Nicky Russell, local area commander for Dundee, said: “This is a fantastic initiative by the community team to address concerns from local residents.”
Police said Pop-up Jims had previously been deployed successfully in Fife.
Dundee Partnership’s community regeneration forums in Strathmartine and Coldside provided the funding to buy the cutouts, which will be padlocked into place. A FRAIL pensioner spent three hours lying on a cold, wet pavement as he waited for an ambulance to arrive.
