BAIRD: I NEED TO BE GOAL HEARTED

- ICT v DUMBARTON

JOHN BAIRD watched Hearts legend John Robertson selflessly brandish a snow shovel for the Caley cause this week.

But Robbo’s first-choice striker reckons the time is ripe for him to become more selfish in his own play – for the good of the team.

Baird was impressed the manager mucked in for a few hours in a vain effort to make the Caledonian Stadium surface playable for Tuesday’s postponed game against Falkirk.

Now, if today’s clash with Dumbarton beats the elements, the 32-year-old plans to make the occasion more about him.

Baird, praised by Robbo for his tireless work-rate during a recent goal drought, said: “Even before I got the goal against Brechin, I was playing well. I have been contributing but I do put a pressure on myself to score. I enjoy scoring.”

While Robertson and his coaching staff turned groundsmen at the stadium, the Caley Thistle youths put in a massive effort to clear snow at the Fort George training ground.

An impressed Baird said: “They were all on the park – the gaffer, Chipper (Brian Rice), Kells (Scott Kellacher). The gaffer showed how much he wants the game to go ahead. It sums up what the club’s about.”

Dumbarton boss Stevie Aitken is delighted with his team’s form but is under no illusion about the task facing his men.

He said: “Inverness are just down from the top flight and have a team full of Premiership players. So it will be tough.”
