RANGERS v ST JOHNSTONE

- GARY RALSTON g.ralston@dailyrecord.co.uk

DANNY WILSON pulled on a Christmas jumper yesterday and it’s the daftest he’s willing to look without beginning to tip his team for a title charge at Celtic.

The promo pullover to promote Rangers’ half seasonticket sales over the festive period was made of cardboard.

It’s as flimsy, Wilson reckons, as suggestions his team are ready to mount a credible championship challenge on the back of four wins in a row.

As one mischievous caller made known the other day, Rangers are the only team in Glasgow this season to win four league games on the spin.

There are lies, damned lies and statistics. And Wilson won’t be fooled as Rangers go for five at home to St Johnstone this afternoon, especially on the back of their performance at Easter Road the other night.

Hibs fans reckoned the 2-1 victory for the Light Blues was the most high-profile act of larceny in the capital since the days of Burke and Hare.

Wilson knows Rangers underperformed and wasn’t slow in telling his team-mates at half-time. But he’s still buoyed by the resilience shown by the group just a month after being written off following defeats against Hamilton and Dundee.

He said: “A title race? Honestly, I don’t think we can look that far ahead because we are in the middle of December. Last month, just before we played Aberdeen, we were miles off it and look at what people were saying.

“After two defeats we were about to cave in apparently. It’s the old boring cliche – one game at a time. This game is just as big as any we have had recently.

“We can get built up by people from the outside but we know we have to keep winning.

“Four wins in a row should be par for the course here. When you get to 10 or 11 then you can start making claims about what you are going to do.

“We know we must do better. We haven’t been consistent
