Brendan: Celts will kick on in new year

- MICHAEL GANNON

BRENDAN RODGERS has warned Premiership rivals his Celtic side will be even stronger in the new year.

The Hoops boss is looking to make it an incredible 70 games unbeaten at Hearts tomorrow despite a gruelling run of fixtures in the first half of the season. Celtic have clocked 33 competitive

matches so far this term after reaching the Champions League group stage and winning the Betfred Cup.

Rodgers has been dealt with a blow with Tom Rogic ruled out until 2018 with a knee injury and Patrick Roberts also out long term. Dedryck Boyata limped out of the Hamilton win in midweek and the manager admitted his Hoops squad are feeling the effects of a hectic spell.

But Rodgers insisted his men will come back from the winter break with a bang and kick on like last term.

He said: “We’ll be better. I said the same last year.

“You put so much into the first half of the season but when we get to the break we’ll hit the reset button again.

“We’ll have more coaching and working time so I’ve no doubt we will be better.

“The only real gap in terms of midweek games was early September. It’s a tough schedule but that’s because we are successful.”

Rodgers pointed to the winter shutdown as key to last season’s stunning second half of the campaign and he is looking for a repeat this
