I LOVE SEEING FAMILIES HAVING A GREAT TIME

-

JOYCE Falconer has been playing the baddie ever since drama school.

And she’s back being evil again as the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Never Woz at Glasgow’s Pavilion Theatre until January 14.

The former River City star, who is from Aberdeen, also played Maw Broon in a touring production of The Broons.

But when it comes to panto, Joyce, 48, who lives in Glasgow, likes to be bad, has appeared in around a couple of dozen over the years.

She said “I did a Fairy Godmother a couple of times but apart from that, I tend to relish the role of the baddie. “The great thing about panto is every show is different depending on your audience. School groups go crazy shaking their fists and sticking out tongues, booing and hissing at the top of their voices. Maybe Sunday afternoon audiences tend to be a wee bit laid back.”

She is heavily disguised in green and black make-up to look the part. For this show, she also gets covered in gunge.

Joyce admits the rest of her life is put on hold while she’s in panto. Her husband, fellow actor David McGowan, will be cooking the Christmas dinner.

Joyce, below left, said: “It’s lovely to see four generations in a family. With technology, everyone is so insular, stuck to their phones and their Xboxes.

“The interactive thing of going to see a live show and all the family being able to participate I think is a wonderful thing.”
