Millar time is not done yet

CHRIS MILLAR enjoyed a man-of-the-match display in his first game for two months and admitted he hoped he’d proved a point to boss Tommy Wright.

The midfielder helped St Johnstone to their first league win at Ibrox in 46 years and believes he’s shown at 34 he still has plenty to offer.

Wright told Millar at the start of the campaign he was free to find another club. But the veteran has fought back into the manager’s plans and is adamant he wants to stay with the Perth outfit – but needs to play at this stage in his career.

Millar said: “It’s been a tough season for me. I’ve not played a lot. It’s been frustrating sitting in the stand watching.

“I’ve come back in after two-and-a-half months not playing and felt I played really well personally and as a team.

“I’m 34 now so need to be playing games so that’s what I want to do.

“I feel I’m showing in training and in the performance against Rangers I’ve still got plenty of life left in me.

“I watched the other week Cesc Fabregas was talking about how last year he wasn’t playing as much and this year he has been. A guy like that is talking about working hard and getting his head down in training. That’s what I’ve been doing.

“If the manager doesn’t pick me? That’s his decision and I’m fine with it. That’s the way it’s been this season and I’ve not changed my attitude.

“I’ve been good about the place, tried to lift the spirit of the boys and be a good influence.”

Millar admitted there have been times he felt he had played his last game for Saints but reckons he still has two years left at the top level and would love them to be at McDiarmid Park.

He added: “For two months I’d not played so of course you think that.

“The longer I don’t play then people will say, ‘He’s finished’. Hopefully that performance showed there’s still plenty of life left.

“I love the club, I’ve been here 10 years. It’s my testimonial year and I want to finish it here but if I’m not playing then I’ll have to look elsewhere.

“I still think there is another year or two left in me but that’s the gaffer’s decision.”
