ROSS COUNTY star Christopher Routis has accused Hamilton defender Ioannis Skondras of punching him in the face and also aiming blows at Kenny van der Weg.

Skondras saw red in the closing stages of Hamilton’s 3-2 Premiership victory at the Superseal Stadium after an amazing bust-up between both sets of players.

Routis revealed he took a sore one in the dish from Skondras while trying to remove team-mate van der Weg from the rammy.

Skondras had sparked the flashpoint by lunging in on Staggies sub Davis Keillor-Dunn, causing all hell to break loose.

Routis, 27, said: “It was quite an emotional moment and it was all stressful.

“I came to take Kenny away from danger as I know what he is like. He can switch off sometimes and he is one of my best pals.

“When the Hamilton player started to punch him I knew I had to take him off very quickly and that is why I ran up and grabbed him.

“I received a punch in the face then I started fuming. The Hamilton player got sent off and that was a good decision by the referee.

“I led Kenny away with my arm and received a blow to the side of my face.

“It was the guy who got sent off. The assistant referee was there and saw it.

“I just reacted to that. It is not always easy to stay calm as we were chasing the game at the time and that was an emotional moment.

“It is hard to be calm when these things are happening as there was lots of tension and bad decisions.”
