Lustig:We onlyhave ourselves toblame

MIKAEL LUSTIG reckons Celtic only have themselves to blame for a catalogue of errors as their unbeaten record crashed and burned.

The Hoops defender held his hands up to the blunders during an astonishing 4-0 loss to Hearts that brought a 69-game unbeaten domestic run to a halt.

It’s also the first time in 77 games the champions have failed to score against a Scottish side and Lustig says it was a day when anything that could go wrong did.

He said: “Probably all the goals come from individual mistakes and we need to be better on that.

“Four goals is not good news. I don’t know what went wrong – everything. The pitch wasn’t the best but Hearts were better.

“Early on we had a couple of chances from midfield and I felt we had some space to play football but after the first goal we didn’t create and we didn’t win the duels.”

This Celtic squad will take their place in the history books for a remarkable feat on the home front but Lustig is adamant the pain of their defeat ensures he can’t take comfort in the achievement just yet.

He said: “It’s a special feeling to go nearly two years without losing a game but of course it was a really sore one and all credit to the Hearts team who went for it.

“The pride is not something we will look at over the next few days. My feeling is I’m glad the game against Partick is coming on Wednesday and we can get back out at Celtic Park and start winning again.

“Now is not the time to look back at what we have achieved, we have to look forward.”

The state of the pitch didn’t aid Celtic’s passing game and Lustig added: “Hearts won it fairly but the way we want to play is easier on a better pitch. If the pitch was better we might have kept it better.”
