A SHELL-SHOCKED mum hit the breakfast jackpot when she and her husband cracked open two boxes of eggs – and all 12 were double yolkers.
Army veteran Jay Lee called wife Babs through to the kitchen while on fry-up duty last Sunday to show her that he had cracked open two double yolkers in succession.
The couple and her son, Ryan, 20, watched as the other four eggs from the same box hit the frying pan with double yolks.
Babs, who receives a twice-weekly delivery of half a dozen eggs from Lanarkshire firm Thomson Dairies, said: “I couldn’t believe it. I’d never had a double yolk in my life. I took a picture of them in the pan and got straight on the phone to the dairy.”
But when she reached for the second box of eggs the next day to make omelettes for tea, one egg after the other had a double yolk.
She said: “One by one, each came out the shell with two yolks. I thought, ‘Something isn’t right.’ I was physically shaking.”
When they took her call at their depot at Etna Industrial Estate in Wishaw, Thomson Dairies workers said they couldn’t explain Babs’ good fortune. Boss William Thomson joked: “After we learned about the first batch, we sent her a message saying we were ‘eggstatic’.
“But after hearing about the second box, we were over the moon.”
To congratulate Babs, of Armadale, West Lothian, William and Thomson Dairies milkman Scott Kyle – who delivers Babs’ eggs – gifted her a luxury festive hamper and a complimentary batch of eggs.
“I’ve never won anything in my life,” said a thrilled Babs.
The couple have vowed to buy a lottery ticket in case they’re on a winning streak.
The chances of one egg being a double yolker are about 1000-1. However, the odds of getting 12 double yolkers consecutively are a massive undecillion to one.
