A Good Samaritan called James Stewart hands in £100 left at an ATM

GOOD Samaritan James Stewart proved It’s a Wonderful Life by handing in £100 he found at an ATM days before Christmas.

The 20-year-old from Lanark – who shares his name with the Hollywood star – noticed the money sticking out of the cash machine at Tesco in Motherwell.

But instead of pocketing the dosh, he did the right thing – in the style of the actor’s character George Bailey in the Christmas classic.

James said: “I walked up to the machine and the money was sticking out, so I took it out.

“I handed it in to the store as I knew if someone had taken out that amount and not lifted it, they would definitely come back – and luckily she did.”

Pamela Martin had left the money at the ATM by accident and thought she would never get it back.

She said: “I was rushing to help a family member in an emergency, so I wasn’t really thinking straight and walked away without my money.

“It was only when I went home that I realised that I had left it.

“Anyone could use an extra £100 at Christmas, so I was delighted when I went into the store the next day to find that someone had handed it in.”

Pamela, from Motherwell, then took to Facebook to try and track down the kind-hearted person.

She wrote: “I would love to find him to thank him. It’s nice to know that our little town has lovely honest people.”

James got in touch the next day to say he was glad she got the money back.

Pamela said: “The world needs more people like James. Merry Christmas.”
