AN ELDERLY man was slashed in the face as he sat in his car using his mobile.

Police said two men approached the yellow Skoda Fabia car parked on St James Road, Glasgow, then opened the driver’s door and attacked him.

He suffered a serious cut and was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

He was later released but will require further treatment.

The suspects were wearing dark clothing and hoods covering their faces. They made off on foot after the attack on Thursday.

Detective Constable Vicky Martin said: “This was a callous attack on an elderly man who has now been left with serious facial injuries.” A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was fighting for his life in hospital last night after taking a mystery red and white drug.

The teenager was “gravely ill” in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, after consuming the distinctive looking capsule.

A 13-year-old boy also received treatment from his doctor for a similar incident in the city earlier this week.

Detective Inspector Tom Leonard said: “Our thoughts are very much with this young boy’s family and friends.

“He is currently in hospital where he is gravely ill and in a critical condition. It might be A LABOUR MSP who fought for extra support for parents of premature babies said he was “delighted” yesterday after a new £1.5million fund was announced.

Mark Griffin campaigned for more help for parents after his wife Stephanie gave birth to their second daughter Rosa 12 weeks early.

He said they spent close to £200 a week visiting Rosa in hospital, while also looking after her older sister Eva.

He said: “When we were in hospital there were so many families there that were in a really desperate situation.

“Some people were in tears because they knew they wouldn’t see their baby the next day because they couldn’t afford to get a taxi.

“It was a really terrible situation so I’m absolutely delighted that this fund has been announced.” Health that others may have taken the substance and I am urging the public, especially parents and guardians to be vigilant as drugs have a devastating impact.”

He added: “The message is clear, there is no safe way to take drugs – there is always a risk. The effects can be unpredictable and can cause serious harm.”

The drug swallowed by the boy has not yet been identified but online rumours said it minister Shona Robison said money would be available from April 1. She said: “We want to make it as simple as possible so that parents are not out of pocket for the daily essentials of getting to and from the hospital where their baby is, and also for things like food and drink.” could be the powerful prescription medicine Pregabalin. It comes in a bright red and while capsule and is being described as the new Valium, a widely prescribed sedative. There are also reports of a growing addiction problem among users of the drug in Northern Ireland.

It is used to treat nerve pain, epilepsy and anxiety, and side effects can include difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, skin blistering, chills, dizziness and a fast heartbeat.

Commenting on the incident, one Dundee resident wrote on Facebook: “Hope it’s not pregabalin that’s the craze sweeping Belfast just now.

“I am prescribed it by my doc. It’s a powerful drug. Not to be messed about with.”

Earlier this month, Yasir Abbasi, an addiction expert in Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, said dependency on the drug was “very much widespread, all over the UK”.

He added: “It works in a similar fashion to diazepam (Valium). It sedates you and takes the edge off.
