Insult to injury for Murray

-

ANDY MURRAY limped to defeat against Roberto Bautista Agut in his Abu Dhabi comeback match.

The Scot, working his way back from hip problems, was beaten 6-2 by the Spaniard in the one-set World Tennis Championship exhibition match.

Although Murray was encouraged by his display, it raises serious questions over the 30-year-old’s fitness ahead of his comeback tournament, the Australian Open, next month.

He said: “Roberto is one of the best players in the world and when you haven’t competed for a long while it takes time to get up to that pace. I started to feel a bit better towards the end but I’ll need to keep improving.”

BASKETBALL: Glasgow Rocks beat London Lions 76-69 at home last night to end the year on a high.

Kieron Achara bagged 17 points as the Rocks turned on the style in front of one of their biggest ever crowds at the Emirates Arena.

BBL leaders Leicester Riders stayed four points clear of Newcastle by routing Leeds Force 105-53.

ICE HOCKEY: Edinburgh Capitals last night skidded to their 10th straight defeat after losing 7-2 to Belfast Giants.

The sides were level at 2-2 before Giants claimed five unanswered goals in 10 third-period minutes to win the Elite League clash.

It moves title-chasing Giants to 39 points, four adrift of league pace-setters Cardiff Devils.
