I’ve moved on from the ghost goal farce but my family haven’t .. they can’t believe I’m not a derby hero

former Hearts keeper Jamie MacDonald’s mistake after he dropped John McGinn’s corner to bundle the ball home – and his predatory instincts even earned praise from Killie goal king Kris Boyd.

Shaw said: “I got told before the game to stand on the goalkeeper and if he spilled anything to be sharp and on top of it. I was there to tap it in and made sure it hit the net this time.

“The manager has shown good faith and trust in me and has started me in the last three games. I’ve really enjoyed it and I look forward to coming back after the break.

“I didn’t have any targets this season and just wanted to knuckle down, play my game and hopefully be given the opportunity. Thankfully it has come along.

“As a striker you just want to score goals and hopefully it can continue. It was nice of Boyd to give me a mention.”

Having played in one Edinburgh derby Shaw is now determined to sample another.

The two sides lock horns again in the Scottish Cup fourth round at Tynecastle on January 21 – after Hibs return from warm-weather training in Portugal.

And Shaw said: “Playing in the derby has been the highlight so far. Everybody wants to play in that match.

“When we come back we have a big Scottish Cup game to focus on and hopefully the gaffer trusts me to pitch me in for the derby again.

“I’ve trained with the boys since the start of the season and worked my way in.

“We go to Portugal and it will be good to be with the boys. I just want to knuckle down when I’m out there and hopefully the gaffer gives me the nod when the game comes round. Now I’m starting matches I feel comfortable and really enjoy it – I want more.”

Shaw’s game has come on leaps and bounds since he made the first-team breakthrough and he claims fellow hitmen Anthony Stokes and Simon Murray have given him great advice.

He said: “I like playing with a partner so it is nice to hear kind words coming from Stokesy who is a top professional.

“Simon is always supporting me and giving me tips even if I’m getting picked ahead of him as he wants me to do well.”

Neil Lennon is hopeful of adding another attacker to the club this month but Shaw remains unfazed and added: “There is always speculation about people coming in. I just want to focus on myself and hope the manager picks me ahead of anybody else.”
