Pressure is not on gaffer to sell stars

-

RANGERS boss Graeme Murty says he doesn’t have to sell players to bring new signings to Ibrox.

The 43-year-old added to his squad by snaring Jamie Murphy and Sean Goss from Brighton and QPR respectively.

At the same time Mexican flop Carlos Pena is on his way out and is close to sealing a loan deal with Cruz Azul under ex-gaffer Pedro Caixinha.

But Murty insists he’s not under pressure to offload stars before he can strengthen his pool.

Murty said: “I haven’t been told that someone has to leave before I can bring another player in.

“There has been a request from Pedro to take Carlos back to Mexico so it’s up to those two.

“With Carlos, there’s been a multitude of factors. He’s arrived on a different continent, it’s a different style of play, expectation levels and systems.

“The one that suited Carlos best was the diamond. But we don’t always have the facility to play that way.

“As much as people will criticise Carlos, we have to look at ourselves also.

“We’re trying to ensure we have people who want to be here and give everything. If we have that who knows what we’re capable of?”

Murty is keen to add more numbers but hasn’t put a definitive figure on how many he’d like.

And he revealed crocked defender Bruno Alves will be absent from the winter break trip to Florida as he faces a lengthy spell out while he gets treatment for a calf injury in Portugal.

Murty said: “As for players coming in I’ve really no idea in terms of numbers. I’m quite happy with the balance of the squad but we can add to it if we feel the need to.

“Bruno is staying in Portugal for the break. He has a significant problem or disruption with his calf so he won’t be in America at all. I’ve no real timescale on how long he might be out.”
