120 more jobs to go at engineering firm
UP TO 120 workers at an engineering firm – including 60 north of the Border – are facing redundancy.
Doosan Babcock are launching a consultation process with staff across their UK facilities as part of a reorganisation programme.
The majority of the positions affected are in management and backoffice support services. The job losses will be spread between the company’s main sites at Renfrew and Crawley and smaller facilities in Tipton, Selby, and Gateshead.
It is estimated up to 60 of the job losses will be in Scotland.
Doosan Babcock chief executive officer Andrew Colquhoun said: “Doosan Babcock continue to face extremely challenging market conditions.
“To meet these challenges, ensure a sustainable future for our employees and add value to our customers, we are undertaking this review.
“Unfortunately this will result in some job losses and this is particularly difficult for a company which places great importance on our staff.” Economy Secretary Keith Brown said: “The news of these potential job losses as part of a UK-wide reorganisation at Doosan Babcock will be a blow to the Renfrewshire community.”
The news comes after reports on Friday that 350 workers on temporary contracts in Grangemouth and in Lanarkshire faced losing their jobs.
