Dinasays sheison readto success
DINA ASHER-SMITH is ready to turn the page in the next chapter in her sprint career after revealing she’s hitting the books in a bid to keep her mind primed for more glory runs.
The Londoner is already an Olympic and World Championship medallist at the age of 22 and it has been confirmed she will gear up for her first crack at Commonwealth Games gold at next month’s Muller Indoor Grand Prix in Glasgow.
But after Asher-Smith bagged her history degree she’s doesn’t want to let her brain turn to mush and she has prescribed herself a book a fortnight as part of a New Year’s resolution she reckons will keep her sane and her life on track.
She said: “Last year was the last year of my degree and I’ve never read more in my life. I wanted to maintain it rather than let it drop off. I’ve been enjoying a mental break over the last couple of months because my brain has literally been saturated.
“But I love reading and learning and it’s something I want to continue.
“I have set myself the challenge of reading a book every two weeks. I will be bringing books with me.
“Whether or not I read them is a different story but when you’re travelling you never know when you will have a delayed flight or your phone dies and you go, ‘What will I do now?’
“I can read my book. As an athlete travelling and waiting is part of my job.”
