Hello Russ if it’s buy buy Alves

RANGERS

-

From Back Page their move for the versatile Scotland defender.

Alves, 36, faces a huge decision as he looks to stay in Portugal’s plans for the World Cup.

The defender was the marquee signing for fellow Portuguese Pedro Caixinha when he joined from Cagliari but has failed to hit the heights.

He has struggled with injury and is absent from the Florida training camp with a calf complaint.

Alves still has 18 months of a two-year deal left but his priority is securing a place in the Portugal squad for Russia.

Gers are keen to move him on with Martin, 32, seen as a replacement and the Norwich defender is targeting a move to Ibrox.

He hasn’t featured for the Canaries since he was subbed during a 4-0 defeat by Millwall in August.

Martin said: “I’m not sure where the destination is but the likelihood is I will go out on loan.”

He won the last of his 29 Scotland caps in a 1-0 win over Slovenia in March and knows he needs first-team football to help him regain his starting slot.

Meanwhile, Jamie Murphy, signed from Brighton on loan until the end of the season before a permanent deal is sealed, is now with the Gers squad in Florida.

And he is happy to have finally made the switch – as is his dad. The 28-year-old, who penned a message on a Rangers jersey when he signed saying: “To Dad, dreams come true”, added: “I’m delighted to be here.

“There was a little tear in my dad’s eye when we were doing all the signing stuff so it’s a big thing.

“To get everything done and to come over and see all the boys, it’s been great.

“Rangers is the team I supported growing up and the team my family supported as well so they are all as delighted as me.

“Being from Glasgow I know what it’s like to support the club so I’m going to do everything I can to try and help Rangers become successful again.”
