Advocates oppose fees

A SCHEME for charging court fees in Scotland could be illegal, a group of senior lawyers have suggested.

The Faculty of Advocates have written to the Scottish Government opposing plans to increase fees over three years.

The Government say court users should contribute to reduce the burden on the taxpayer.

But the advocates say the whole of society benefits from the maintenance of the court system.
