FORMER Scotland and Liverpool goalie Tommy Lawrence has died, aged 77.

Born in Dailly, Ayrshire, he moved to England as a boy and signed with Liverpool at 17, when they were in the old Second Division.

He became Bill Shankly’s No1 in 1962 and stayed at the club until 1971, winning the club’s first FA Cup in 1965 and two league titles.

Lawrence, dubbed The Flying Pig due to his ability to make saves despite his size, played three times for Scotland and finished his league career at Tranmere.
