STEWART REGAN has called for patience from Scotland supporters as the SFA’s search for a new manager continues.

The chief executive has come under fire for his handling of the hunt with Northern Ireland gaffer Michael O’Neill not being contacted by the SFA despite being the No.1 target.

But Regan insists the Tartan Army should not to be concerned about the lengthy wait to find a replacement for Gordon Strachan who left in October.

The 54-year-old stressed the SFA can’t rush their decision and must make it the right appointment.

Regan told an SFA members update said: “The appointment of a new Scotland head coach is an emotive subject that is high on the agenda for all Scotland fans.

“We would like to assure supporters the matter is also of the utmost priority for both the search committee and the SFA.

“It has been well publicised in the media that discussions have taken place regarding a new Scotland head coach.

“Progress has been made in this regard but it is critical that this process is not rushed.

“It is of paramount importance that the appointment of the next head coach is the right one.

“Discussions will continue in the short term and we will update supporters whenever new information becomes available.”
