My back break so nearly a career KO

- SCOTT McDERMOTT sport@dailyrecord.co.uk

RANGERS new boy Sean Goss has revealed he’s lucky to still be playing football after a fractured back almost ended his career.

The midfielder, on loan from QPR, suffered the injury while at Manchester United in December 2015 after impressing gaffer Louis van Gaal.

Following a year out injured Goss fought his way back with help from teammates Darren Fletcher and Luke Shaw.

After joining Rangers until the end of the season, Goss is determined to grab his chance but won’t take anything for granted after that horror injury.

The 22-year-old said: “It was a really slow recovery but thankfully I feel absolutely fine now. There was a gradual build-up but after a game I woke up one morning and couldn’t move.

“I’m fortunate to still be playing so I’ll never look back with regrets.

“When you’re out for that long you just think, ‘What’s happening here?’

“You try not to think about it but you do worry. Luckily I was in the perfect place to get back fit with the doctors at Manchester United.

“I spent a lot of time doing nothing and just had to rest.

“Luke had broken his leg and was in rehab so having someone by my side was a big help.

“When you’re low and motivation isn’t so good, you try to help your mate out. It helped both of us.

“I had some dealings with Darren as well, he was a massive character around the club.

“He was a great example of how to come back after a serious problem. He showed real character and came back strong.”
