Bottle stops

I CANNOT agree with the reader who claims bottle banks function extremely well.

If so, why are our pavements and cycle paths constantly littered with broken glass thrown down by careless louts?

I am a regular cyclist and dog-walker. I regularly have to lift and carry the bike or dog to avoid damage to tyres or injury.

I think all glass bottles –with some exceptions, eg prescription medicines – should be subject to a hefty deposit of at least 50 per cent of the cost of the drink.

I don’t believe a tiny deposit of 10p would have any effect on the litter louts. Sandy Nicolson
